Following the May 26 opening of Fifth Third Bank at 7100 W. Cermak Road, Berwyn Gateway Plaza continues the second phase of its redevelopment. Fifth Third Bank is the second business to open in the plaza following the October grand opening of Starbucks.
“Fifth Third Bank has always been an anchor in the Berwyn community and in the Cermak corridor,” Mayor Robert Lovero said in a news release from the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC). “We are glad they chose to stay in Berwyn and welcome them to their new home. We wish them all the best.”
BDC Board of Directors president Jousef Mondragon says that the second phase of the Gateway Plaza is projected to generate more than $171,000 in property taxes and more than $95,000 in local sales taxes annually.
Blaze Pizza and Noodles & Company are the next two businesses slated to open in the development; each slated to be open by the end of the summer.
According to the news release, the second phase of the redevelopment is expected to be completed by early 2017.
