A new music and arts venue opened May 28 in Berwyn. ‘The Outtaspace,’ a for-profit facility, will feature everything from live music performances, art exhibitions, workshops and more.
Local artist, musician, and founder of ‘The Outtaspace,’ Aaron Mitchell, believes it is important for the people of Berwyn to have a place to exhibit art and listen to original music. Mitchell is aiming for his facility to cover all the bases within the art and music community. “I think our mission is different [than other venues], encompassing all disciplines,” he said.
The venue is located at 6840 W. 32nd St. in the heart of the Depot District, a revitalized Berwyn neighborhood. Mitchell states that ‘The Outtaspace’ will add to the entertainment draw in the Depot District, and join the likes of nearby Garage Smokehouse and Bar, as well as Flapjack Brewery.
According to the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC), the new venue required a $150,000 loan to complete the construction. Formerly a warehouse, the loan went towards repairing the floor, adding a bar, installation of new light fixtures and two bathrooms.
Mitchell is anticipating ‘The Outtaspace’ to provide locals with live music Thursdays through Saturdays, and classes and workshops throughout the week. Pop-up art galleries and exhibitions are also on Mitchell’s plate of ideas.
