The North Park District of Berwyn recognized the city’s top eighth-grade students of the 2015-2016 academic year at an awards banquet earlier this month.
Mickla Dees of Lincoln Middle School, and Heritage Middle School’s Emily Bittdorf and Mia Coronado have all earned the honor of “Berwyn’s Best” as a part of the park district’s yearly awards program.
“These students are an example of the future leaders that reside in the city of Berwyn. The city is very proud of all the candidates recognized in the North Berwyn Park District’s Best of Berwyn program,” Mayor Robert Lovero said in a Park District news release.
Students were made eligible for the honor based on academic performance and extracurricular activities before being evaluated by elected officials, educators, and community leaders. Following an individual interview process, the students were then awarded from first to third place: Mickla Dees (winner), Emily Bittdorf (first runner-up), and Mia Coronado (second runner-up), according to a media report.
Dees, Bittdorf, and Coronado were in competition with over 20 other semi-finalists from the city’s middle schools.
