Zacatacos, the popular Mexican restaurant known for quick-service tacos and burritos, will open a third location in Berwyn by the end of the year. The new taqueria is anticipated to open by December 2016 at the former New Seneca Restaurant, 6544 W. Cermak Road, according to media reports.
The small restaurant chain has seen plenty of success in Berwyn with its two existing locations at 6224 W. Cermak Road (opened 2005) and 3837 S. Harlem Avenue (opened 2008), leading to a mutual relationship between business and customer.
“We’re big fans of Berwyn,” said Mars Holding Consultant Alex Godinez. “We will [still] be in a great location to serve the community.”
New Seneca Restaurant closed in March 2015 after the owners defaulted on a business loan totaling $330,000 that was signed in 2001. As Zacatacos plans to move in, Godinez said that the building is in good shape but will require a total renovation, according to media reports.
The new restaurant will have a contemporary look and feature an expanded Mexican menu that will offer more than the restaurant’s other locations. When asked about specifics, Godinez said they have “a lot of great ideas.”
Zacatacos was honored to be part of The Chicago Tribune’s “best tacos in town” list in 2006 by ranking in the top five. The restaurant was also featured by ABC 7’s Steve Dolinsky in 2008 on a portion of the show titled “The Hungry Hound,” which showcases the best restaurants in Chicago.
