This coming Sunday, we celebrate the lives we have been given and the sacrifices that have been made for us by our mothers. We also honor those who have passed away and think about relationships that might have been strained over the years.

While we all have unique relationships with our mothers, one trait every person shares is that we wouldn’t be here without this special person. Advances in modern medicine may one day make this statement untrue, but for now, we pay our respects by going out to eat, buying cards, offering to do the housework, and impressing Mom with a few fun ideas on how to spend the day. Pick one, or do all of four. I suppose it depends on how much you love your Mom right now.

Option 1: Live Music (Saturday Night, May 7)
If Mom is more of a night owl who likes to go out, start Mother’s Day early and take her to FitzGerald’s, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd., to see American English, a Beatles cover band. The show begins at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 per person and can be bought at the venue. American English has been voted “Best Tribute Band” by fans in the Chicagoland area three out of the past four years.

Option 2: Brunch
What better way to start the day than treating Mom to breakfast or brunch? If she isn’t nursing a hangover from the American English show, we recommend visiting Connie’s Family Restaurant, 3269 Harlem Ave. The menu offers plenty of sweet and savory options so every member of the table will find something they enjoy from the Banana Split Waffle to Connie’s Skillet.

Option 3: Take a Stroll in the Depot District
The Depot District is the heart of Berwyn’s local economy, but you don’t have to shell out all your cash to enjoy walking through this part of town. Sunday’s weather calls for the mid-60s with no chance of rain, so this is a perfect opportunity to notice the city’s charming architecture and local parks.

Option 4: Dinner
La Notte Café, 6822 Windsor Ave., is featuring a very special Mother’s Day menu crafted by Head Chef Giovanni Matteo Mancini. The special menu includes two choices of soup and salad, four choices of appetizers, and 12 choices of entrees. The restaurant will be seating parties until 6:30 p.m., so we recommend making a reservation and planning accordingly to ensure you will have a table waiting for your party. To make a reservation, call 708-749-1800.
