The Berwyn Police Department released a crime alert today due to an increase in robberies throughout Berwyn and surrounding areas recently. The statement reads as follows:

This is an important message from the Berwyn Police Department in regards to criminal activity. Recently, several area municipalities have experienced robberies. We are contacting you today to make you aware of these criminal acts, and to ask for your vigilance and assistance in bringing these offenders to justice.

While victim and witness descriptions have been varied, in most of the reported incidents, the offenders have been described as follows:

1 African American male, between 20 and 25 years old, 5’10 to 6’00 in height, with an average build and a short hairstyle; and

1 African American male, between 25 and 30 years old, 5’10 to 6’00 in height, with a thin build and a short hairstyle

Descriptions of the offenders’ vehicle have also been varied, but recent incidents have noted that they were driving a black sedan with an Illinois temporary license plate and a clearly visible sticker in the rear windshield of an airplane.

We would like to encourage every Berwyn resident to be vigilant and cautious until these offenders are taken into custody. Each of the victims of these crimes was by themselves, either walking or riding a bicycle, so we recommend that you try to travel in groups or utilize public transportation as an alternative. In times like these, it’s important to remember that safety is everyone’s responsibility and that the police rely on the public to be our eyes and ears. Please remember the description of the offenders and their vehicle, and do not hesitate to call 9-1-1 if you should see these offenders. Most importantly, DO NOT PLACE YOURSELF IN HARM’S WAY. Calling 9-1-1 and providing the most detailed description that you can is the best way that you can help your community.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to this message. We will place another call to you with additional updates when they are available.

  1. Hello, I’m a Berwyn resident and I was curious to know if there are any updates in regard to this report?

    Thanks Vince R.

  2. This was posted April 26th at 7:42pm.
An hour later you’re looking for updates?
It’s nice to see Berwyn police still elicit high expectations from the citizens, but wow!
    : -)

  3. Section 8 and the influx of ghetto assholes has ruined Berwyn. Just like it ruined Englewood, Austin, Marquette Park, etc.. Thanks a lot for tearing down the projects, Mayor Daley. All the garbage spilled into our town.
