The Berwyn Park District is considering a new recreation option at Proksa Park. A nine-hole frisbee golf course is scheduled to open in the fall if funding goes as planned.
Supervisor for the Berwyn Park District, Conor Cahill, suggested that Proksa Park could benefit from having a new recreation option that Berwynites could take advantage of. “Anyone can do this. You just have to be able to throw,” said Cahill about the possibility of a frisbee golf course. “It’s an up-and-coming sport, and it fits well in the park. It’s a way of incorporating low-impact activity.”
While the idea of frisbee golf course seems like a fun, innovative idea for the park, funding is very limited at this point. Berwyn Park District was recently accepted as one of 12 park districts across the country to become part of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Using the NRPA’s crowdfunding website, the Berwyn Park District is hoping to raise $10,000 to fully fund the course and supplies by the end of April.
Jeff Janda, Berwyn Park District Executive Director, backs the idea of a frisbee golf course. Janda believes that the new addition will not only provide the community with an opportunity to exercise but socialize with friends as well. “We’re very excited,” said Jeff. “This can get people together, regardless of social status or physical abilities. Everyone can have fun together, and it also is a great way to showcase the park.”
Donations are already up to nearly $3,000. To find out more information on how you could help fund the project, visit the NRPA’s direct link.
