Ruth Volbre has been named as the new Berwyn Assistant City Administrator. The Berwyn City Council approved Mayor Robert Lovero’s appointment of Volbre on March 8, as she replaces former administrator, Evan Summers.
Volbre, a Columbia College grad, seemed to be the obvious choice when it came to replacing Summers’ role. She has worked for the city of Berwyn since July 2009 as an Administrative Assistant to the mayor and City Administrator. The current City Administrator, Brian Pabst, stated that no other candidates were considered for the position. “Why would you when you have somebody who has done so well for years?” he said.
Volbre has been a part Berwyn for more than 12 years. After college, she bought a house in the city and fell in love with the community. The upbeat candidate states that she is “ready for any project that comes along that needs to be handled.” Future plans may include a July 3 firework show at Morton West High School that will be funded by the ‘World’s Largest Laundromat’ in Berwyn. Volbre mentioned that this would be the first firework display in Berwyn since before 2008.
“I look forward to taking on more projects and working with department heads to better serve the residents of Berwyn,” she said. “I’m happy to be of service to our community.”
