The Berwyn Gateway Plaza will feature a Fifth Third Bank, Blaze Pizza and Noodles and Company by summer. These businesses will join the recently opened Starbucks in the eastward expansion of the plaza.
Fifth Third Bank is relocating to a new building at Cermak Road and Wisconsin Avenue. Executive director of the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) Anthony Griffin says that the bank should be ready to open in March. Two chain restaurants, Blaze Pizza and Noodles and Company, will also vacate the expanded area as soon as late spring or early summer. Blaze Pizza is a fast growing chain featuring pizzas with made-from-scratch dough and nitrate free meats. Noodles and Company is popular for its noodle dishes, sandwiches, salads and soups.
Griffin states that there are still three available spaces open in the expansion area. “One to three businesses could locate there, depending on the space needed,” he said. For now, the remaining spots are being targeted by retailers and restaurants. Griffin hopes that BDC can finalize the leases by the end of June. BDC Board of Directors president Jousef Mondragon says that the second phase of the Gateway Plaza is projected to generate more than $171,000 in property taxes and more than $95,000 in local sales taxes annually.
