The long awaited Torres Fresh Market is now open, located at 6227 W. 26th St. in Berwyn.
Torres Fresh Market is a full-services grocery store with a bakery, dry goods, a produce department and a meat department. Customers can also enjoy homemade Mexican specialties at the taquería and can take advantage of daily and weekly specials.
Torres Fresh Market joins a family of stores owned by Adolfo Linares. There are Torres Supermercados in Cicero and Melrose Park, and Berkeley Finer Food stores in Berkeley and Batavia.
Prior to the Oct. 13 grand opening, the building operated for 58 years as Great West Electrical Supply Inc. In 2014, Linares began gut rehab on the building, adding a vestibule to the east, building the space out to the north, to end up with a 16,00-square-foot store, as stated in the Chicago Tribune.
Linares, a former Berwyn resident, chose the location to meet the market demand for a local grocer in east Berwyn, according to a Berwyn Development Corporation news release.
“Our goal is not only to serve our customers but also to serve their families and our community,” Linares said.
Mal Montoya, BDC Board President, remarked “The BDC is proud to welcome Torres Fresh Market to Berwyn. Repurposing this building and transforming it into a full service grocery store on 26th Street is a major milestone for Berwyn.”
Mayor Robert J. Lovero continued, “The BDC and City have worked in collaboration to bring this much needed business to 26th Street. Congratulations and welcome to Berwyn.”
Torres Fresh Market is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The taquería is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
