Berwyn has one thing in common with Munich for the next couple days- both cities are celebrating Oktoberfest with live music, food, and beer. I have not been lucky enough to visit the capital city of Bavaria for the annual festival, but I’m perfectly happy staying local. There’s plenty to like such as seeing Sixteen Candles and Wedding Banned perform live, sampling various types of food from all over the world, and who can forget the kegs upon kegs of beer that have rolled into the Depot District? Prost!

Berwyn’s Oktoberfest
Berwyn’s Oktoberfest (sponsored by Paisans Pizzeria & Bar) takes place Friday from 6-11 p.m. and Saturday from noon-11 p.m. in the Depot District. There will be live music, food vendors, a beer garden, carnival rides, and more. On Saturday, the family pavilion welcomes a variety of interactive activities including face-painting, a bounce house, and other games aimed toward the younger crowd. Friendly’s Craft & Vintage Market
Friendly’s Tap, 6731 W. Roosevelt Rd., will host a Craft & Vintage Market on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a family-friendly atmosphere that allows neighbors to connect and browse the work of vendors such as Calamity Layne Vintage and Megan Lee Designs. Tell your friends you plan on going by joining the Facebook event.

“Merchild” at 16th Street Theater
Aline Lathrop’s play “Merchild” is coming to 16th Street Theater, 6420 16th St., on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m. The play explores a young child’s gender identity and the struggle others have in coming to terms with what he wishes for himself. Admission is $18 and can be purchased here. For more information about the play, visit the 16th Street Theater website.

French Market at Audre Monde Café
Autre Monde Café, 6727 W. Roosevelt Rd., will host a French Market on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be local vendors, live music, and Chefs Dan Pancake, Beth Partridge and Andrew Kerns will be on-site to prepare light bites and finger food.

St. Odilo’s Inaugural 5K Family Fun Run
St. Odilo School & Parish is hosting its first ever 5K Family Fun Run on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. The race will take place at Sunset Meadows in Countryside, so it’s not exactly right in our backyard but the pretty scenery of the nature preserve will provide a nice backdrop for the race and the proceeds will benefit the local school in Berwyn. Registration is $15 for kids and $25 for adults.
